Entrepreneurial Resources

Entrepreneurs are faced with many new experiences, questions, and challenges that can cause difficulties and problems with their business. Fortunately, they will find that there are a wealth of resources that are available to help them make the right decisions and avoid pitfalls. These resources are invaluable, as they offer tools such as business calculators, professional advice, programs, and more. Before they can take advantage of these resources, however, entrepreneurs must first know where to find them. People starting their own business must also determine which of these resources are and are not beneficial to their needs.

Entrepreneurial resources are available both online and offline. Online resources can be found by conducting searches for resources for entrepreneurs or for more specific information such as "business loans" or "business plans." Websites for government and nonprofit organizations are a great source of information, as they often provide mentoring and/or training to new entrepreneurs and small businesses. People who are in need of information on patents or trademarks for a product or slogan, for example, will want to visit the website of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The Small Business Administration, or SBA, is another example of a government-based resource. The SBA offers training and educational materials as well as assistance through information and counseling sessions that may occur face-to-face or online. Books are another source of helpful information. While online, one can search for suggested reading material and may even purchase and download information in e-book format. When searching for resources offline, one may turn to public libraries for educational reference books and visit nearby business development centers for access to advisers, workshops, and other resources.

Some business resources are aimed toward specific groups of people such as women, minorities, and individuals with disabilities. These resources are meant to encourage self-employment and business ownership within these groups. Women's business centers, for example, provide educational services for female entrepreneurs. The disabled, women, and minorities can also seek out government programs and may even be eligible for grant money. People with disabilities can also look to specific associations related to their disability or their local chamber of commerce. Injured veterans should also contact the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs regarding any available small-business programs.

Having the right tools is also highly important for entrepreneurs. Because there are so many types of tools, it can be difficult to know which are necessary. Some tools are universal, however, including tools that allow businesses to talk and interact with customers and gather leads, such as marketing automation software or services. Entrepreneurs will also need the right resources to help them collect payment from customers or clients either in the form of online credit card processing or in person. Online calculators are helpful and can be found on any number of business-related websites or by conducting an online search. There are different types available to meet the needs of business owners. For example, financial calculators such as debt-to-income calculators can help one determine their financial standing before applying for a business loan. This is important because this is one of the factors that banks take into consideration when it comes to loans. Starting cost calculators are also helpful, particularly during the planning stage of one's business. Other business calculators include conversion rate and various return on investment (ROI) calculators, such as marketing ROI calculators
